We were fortunate to get Dr A E Muthunayagam, a technocrat cum scientist besides being our Alumni to be the Guest of Honour on 7th Aug functions.

It was the matter of pride to note that he was recruited by Dr. Vikram Sarabai and entrusted the task of development of propulsion technology. Dr Sarabai entrusted the first Indian Satellite Launch Programme split into 4 stages to four stalwarts namely: Dr V R Gowrikar, Mr. Kurup, Dr AE Muthunayagamand Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. Dr Kalam had acknowledged the knowledge strength of Dr AEM in space Propulsion technology in his book “ Wings of Fire” . Dr AEM was known as “ Father of propulsion Technology” in ISRO. When he decided to leave ISRO, he was appointed as the Secretary of Department of Ocean Development (DoD) from 1995 to 2001. He spearheaded the DoD activities on war foot. He gave new dimensions to the Department and changed its      outlook from mere funding agency to a real Science & technology organisation and rendered for its manifold growth. He has created and enhanced the face value of the Autonomous institutions such as National Institute of Ocean

Technology-Chennai, National Centre for Antarctic Ocean Research-Goa, Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services Hyderabad, Centre for Living Marine Research, Kochi. Each Institute was given a vision & mission document to follow & excel. Through NIOT he pioneered ocean technologies’ like Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion ( OTEC), Desalination using LTTD technology, Deep Sea Mining, Buoy Technology etc.,. Many developed countries like Japan, Germany, US started looking at India’s achievements & progress in various Ocean Technology missions. Today DoD has grown very big to the size of commission like ISRO, Atomic Research organisations and now it is known as Ministry of Earth Sciences. This phenomenal growth occurred in shortest span mainly due to the strong foundations laid by him.

Dr AEM’s speech was like steam line flow covering his academic career in ACCET ( BE, Mech), IISC (ME) & Purdue University ( Ph D), Professional career in ISRO. His role models were Prof. Arcot Ramachandran & Dr. Vikram Sarabai. He had nicely presented his innovative Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) cum Desalination plant. No doubt Dr AEM's lecture has ignited many young students present and will remain in our mind for ever.

Dr AE Muthunayagam, ACCET Alumni ( 1956-60 Mech), Former Secretary to GoI for Dept.of Ocean

 Development, now known as Min. Of Earth Sciences; Director-Liquid Propulsion Centre, ISRO;
Governor-Board of Control to IIT-Chennai addressing the gathering.

ACCET Principal , our Faculty & current Faculty members have greeted Dr AEM and invited him to ACCET for more lectures.

8th Aug 2017 ( last day):
# Batch mates who stayed in KKDI for 8th Aug tour left the Hotel around 9 am and came to Thirumayam Fort.

Thirumayam Fort was constructed in 1687 AD by Sethupathi Vijaya Raghunatha Thevar, the ruler of Ramanathapura. Many dramatic events are associated with the fort. Thirumayam is where Kattabomman’s (an eighteenth century chieftain) brother hid when attempting to escape the British. There are three famous monuments here – the fort itself and two stunning rock-cut temples which have been hewn from the same rock with shrines are dedicated to Shiva and Vishnu. The Vishnu Temple is a popular pilgrim spot and is considered second to the magnificent Srirangam Temple.. All three monuments have been declared National Monuments and are protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI

Thirumayam is the birth place of great freedom fighter Late. Sri. Satyamoorthy and also for
Dr . Shantha ,
Chairperson of Adyar Cancer Institute.

Batch mates visited “Kokarneswarar Brahadambal Temple,Thirugokarnam-Pudukkottai” also known as Araikasuamman around 11 am. The rock-cut cave Temple of Sri Kokarneswarar Brahadambal at Thirukokarnam is of Mahendraverma Pallava's period. The presiding deity is Gokarneshwarar and His consort is Brahadambal. Locally, this temple is known as Brahadambal temple and it is also known as Arakasu Amman temple. Very powerful Goddess!! It is a belief that if you have lost something a truthful prayer to Arakasu Amman will help you to recover it. This temple occupies an important place among the ancient classical monuments of Pudukkottai, with its history dating back to early 7th century AD and still in use.

Visit to Sittannavasal: Premkumar’s relative, who is the Block Development officer of Pudukkottai received us on arrival of Bus to Sittannavasal and allotted a guide to explain about Sittannavasal. Later he hosted a high tea at the VIP guest house
